uniting alaska's manufactured home communities

Advocating rights | promoting safety building stronger neighborhoods
We’re neighbors—Alaskan homeowners and residents of manufactured home (MH) communities—who care deeply about the places we live and the people we live alongside.
We believe everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and secure in their home. That’s why we’re learning about our rights, standing up for fair treatment, and working together to create safe, healthy neighborhoods for ourselves and each other. Our vision extends beyond our own neighborhoods—we’re also committed to supporting the strength and sustainability of MH communities all across Alaska.

Stories, Struggles, and a Spark
In 2023, a group of manufactured home (MH) owners united over the threat of losing their homes due to rising space rents, infrastructure failures, and park owner abandonment. As they started talking and sharing their stories, they realized they weren’t alone. They were all facing similar challenges. But more than that, they discovered a spark of shared hope for the future: to be safe in their homes, to have real housing security, and to be empowered by knowing their rights and how to take action to protect those rights when needed.
By January 2024, homeowners from four MH communities across the Municipality of Anchorage formally organized as AMHORA, the Alaska Manufactured Home Owner and Resident Association. What started as neighbors talking about shared struggles grew into something much bigger: a grassroots association led by those directly affected by unstable housing, unsafe living conditions, and a lack of accountability from those in power.
our story
From neighbors to A movement
We know real change starts from the ground up. With this principle in mind, building relationships has been our priority over the past year—knocking on doors, listening to one another, and collecting more stories of both the challenges we face and the visions we hold for our homes and neighborhoods. We have focused on lifting up more leaders from within our communities, making decisions together, and showing up for one another. What affects one, affects us all.
We also began building relationships with community leaders, public officials, lawmakers, and others who have the ability to enact or enforce the changes we hope to see. At the same time, we have been digging into research—looking at the role manufactured housing plays in affordable housing conversations, understanding local and state laws, identifying available resources, and uncovering the gaps that have left our communities vulnerable. As we reflected on these gaps, we began outlining plans for our first public action.
grassroots power in action
